I’m growing!!

And so is the Life of Ray fund! It’s been 2 months since everything started, and everything is great!  I’m getting bigger every day, with the help and love of my mother and my Kintampo and US villages.

My mother started working, and will receive her first paycheck at the end of the month.  Thank you to everyone who made it possible!  I’m so happy to have her here. :-)

Although we reached our goal for my mother’s support, we still need your donations.  Now that I’m bigger, I can start writing my book.  Additional funds will go to launching the first book in my Life of Baby Ray series (I can’t wait!) and to Kintampo Municipal Hospital, where I was born.

We are still accepting donations through the National Medical Fellowships with three EASY steps (just don’t forget to say its for me!):

1. Head to the National Medical Fellowships website:http://www.nmfonline.org/donation.php

2. Say you want to make a PAYPAL donation

3. When you have decided your amount and are reviewing your order, click on the DESCRIPTION link which is in the purpose box and SPECIFY THAT YOUR DONATION IS FOR BABY RAY by writing BABY RAY in the box.

Thank you!!

We have enough money for a year! $2,500 and counting!

Thank you to everyone!  We have been able to raise enough money to support my mother at I for a year!  Just $2,500 is enough for a family of two to survive in our town of Kintampo, and live comfortably too!  It’s all thanks to you! If I’m able to raise more it is going toward my book, and toward my hospital and town!

I posted some more pictures so you can see how happy you’ve made me!

I’m now a real non-profit!

Yesterday, I teamed up with the National Medical Fellowships, Inc.  That’s  the organization that sponsored my adopted American mothers to come to Ghana…and now they have adopted me as a part of their non-profit status!  So I am an official charity!

Donating to me now requires three EASY steps:

1. Head to the National Medical Fellowships website: http://www.nmfonline.org/donation.php

2. Say you want to make a PAYPAL donation

3. When you have decided your amount and are reviewing your order, click on the DESCRIPTION link which is in the purpose box and SPECIFY THAT YOUR DONATION IS FOR BABY RAY by writing BABY RAY in the box.

Thank you so much for all your love and support!

Help Baby Ray

Hi, we’re Joanna and Stephanie, two of the Oburoni’s (foreigners) that helped care for and fell in love with Baby Ray, the abandoned baby.  Even though his mother has been found, there are limited resources to care for this young woman.

Though unique, their story is not uncommon in Africa or the US, where young mothers are often left to fend for themselves.  However, we were so touched by this baby and his mother’s story that we want to help.  We want to create a sustainable funding source to aid Baby Ray and his mother.  Through our research, we discovered that just $200 US dollars (300 Ghana cedis) a month is enough to provide for their small family of 2.

However, as stated so eloquently by Godwin, the social worker, “We don’t just want to give her fish. We want to teach her to fish”.  We are working with the hospital to create a job for Baby Ray’s mother, and the first $2,500 raised by the Life of Ray charity will go to funding her salary for one year.  All funds raised in addition to that $2,500 will be donated to the Kintampo Municipal Hospital for purchase of much-needed supplies, such as mosquito nets, antibiotics, and latex gloves.

We don’t just want you to donate, we want you to become involved in the future of our Baby Ray.

Donations $10+ – You will be a bronze donor.  Baby Ray will send you a thank-you e-mail with a photo at 3 weeks attached.

Donations $25+ – You will be a silver donor.  Your name will appear in fine print in the acknowledgment section of Baby Ray’s first children’s book.

Donations $100+ – You will be a gold donor.  Baby Ray will mail you a framed photograph and a thank you note.

Donations $500+ – You will be a platinum donor.  You will receive an autographed copy of Baby Ray’s first children’s book signed by the author, Baby Ray.

It is our hope and belief that the Life of Ray series will be a tremendous success and will continue to benefit Baby Ray, his mother, and the town of Kintampo.

If you have any questions, comments or you want to become involved, you can contact us at lifeofray2011@gmail.com.  Thank you!!
